Intel Kaby Lake benchmarks – could this be the new Core i7-7700K?
Intel’s Skylake 6th generation CPUs, and more precisely the Core i7-6700K proved to be one of the best-performing chips of the newest microarchitecture by the American company. The chip can be found in any high-end machine, and thanks to its unlocked multiplier its productivity can be increased two times.
It is namely the Intel Core i7-6700K that was first overclocked to a frequency above 7 GHz by the “German machine” der8auer, and the first place is now occupied by Chi-Kui Lam from Hong Kong who managed to get the incredible 7025.7 MHz out of this chip. These results speak for themselves about the overclocking capabilities of the CPU which comes at a reasonable price compared to Intel’s extreme chips meant for sockets 2011 or 2011-3.
Intel’s new architecture is called Kaby Lake and will be announced at one of the biggest technological events – Computex. The Kaby Lake CPUs will support DDR3L/DDR4 memory and will be compatible with socket 1151 – just like the Skylake chips. This means that the new microarchitecture is a direct successor to the current generation chips. As Computex approaches, the Internet witnessed leaks of several benchmarks that confuse us as to which processor this could be.
We deem that this is most probably the Core i7-7700K because of the specs: 4 cores with base frequency of 3.6 GHz which can be increased to 4.2 GHz thanks to the Turbo Boost technology. However, the benchmark results are lower than those of the Intel Core i7-6700K. It makes us think – the mysterious processor is might not be the Intel Core i7-7700K, which is expected to be the new market hit until next year when Intel will present its 10nm microarchitecture called Cannonlake. A second absolutely possible scenario is that this may not be the final performance of the chip. We shall find the answers to these questions after a bit more than two weeks.
