Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

What to do if you like the Predator Triton 300 SE as a concept and design, but you think that the performance that it offers is lackluster? You go ahead and buy its bigger sibling, the Triton 500 SE, which comes with Alder Lake H-series processors, along with the new GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti from NVIDIA, which are the most powerful laptop GPUs that Team Green offers as of now.

So far, we see great potential for gaming performance. Performance isn’t everything, however, as you need a great display to experience the games properly. This is why the laptop is equipped with a 16-inch QHD+ IPS panel with a 240Hz refresh rate.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s).

Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s)

1. Design and build quality

The laptop is very well crafted, with a durable aluminum chassis. Similar to the Triton 300 SE, the design is as minimal as possible, with a boxy shape, rounded corners, and sharp edges. There are some more aggressive characteristics, with the heat vents on the back appearing with sharp and industrial slits between them. There is next to no branding, with the only logo that you’ll see is a very small Predator logo on the lid. This isn’t the lightest device, however, but for a 16-inch device with this hardware, a weight of 2.50 kg and a 20.5 mm profile are expected.

2. Battery life

Equipped with a 100W battery pack, the laptop endures through 11 hours and 29 minutes of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 30 minutes of video playback, which is really good considering what performance lies beneath and the power that it draws. As always, we perform our tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

3. Display quality

The 16-inch QHD+ display is very good, coming with excellent viewing angles, a max brightness of 500 nits in the middle of the screen, and 482 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 11%. The contrast ratio is pretty good, at 1290:1. The device will do an amazing job as a creator laptop, fully covering the sRGB color gamut and 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut.

The panel is also decently accurate, especially with our Design and Gaming profile, which brings down the dE value to 1.7. Here are the results with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

In the P3-D65 color space, the dE value is even lower, down to 0.7.

Health-Guard

1 reason NOT to buy the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s)

1. Upgradeability

Despite the large footprint of the laptop, the upgradeability suffers, with there being zero SODIMM slots for future RAM upgrades. There are up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM, which runs at 4800MHz. Storage-wise, we find two M.2 PCIe slots, both of which support Gen 4 drives and have a RAID mode.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the SSD slots.
