ASUS VivoBook Pro 16X OLED (N7600) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

The VivoBook Pro 16X OLED (N7600) is a pretty successful experiment from ASUS. The whole VivoBook Pro lineup seems to be fantastic, bringing great hardware, build quality, and design features that make it stand out. Today we will take a look at the Intel-based laptop, which brings the Tiger Lake H35 processors, which are a good mix of power efficiency and performance.

The laptop that we tested had the Core i7-11370H, which might not be as powerful as the higher-powered Ryzen 5000H-series and the Tiger Lake H45 chips, still offer nice performance which will be more than enough for many people.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the ASUS VivoBook Pro 16X OLED (N7600).

ASUS VivoBook Pro 16X OLED (N7600): Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the ASUS VivoBook Pro 16X OLED (N7600)

1. Design and build quality

With an aluminum lid and chassis, this laptop is as premium as it can get. The structure is pretty solid, with next to no flex from the base, and only some small twisting from the lid. The whole body has an anodized finish, which makes it smooth while keeping smudges and fingerprints away. For a 16-inch notebook, a weight of 1.95 kg and a profile of 18.9 mm is practically nothing.

The lid opens easily with one hand, with the hinges being firm but smooth at the same time. The bezels on the display are thin, with the top one housing a Webcam and a privacy shutter. The keyboard has an interesting paint job, with silver in the middle, grey on the sides, and an orange escape key, which is the cherry on top. Furthermore, the keycaps are well-sized and offer mediocre key travel and clicky feedback, which is to be expected with a slim notebook like this.

The keyboard also has a backlight, which is great for those who work at night or in dimly lit areas. The touchpad is quite large, as it should be given that it can act as a graphics tablet in emergencies, with it 1024 pressure levels of sensitivity, along with the DialPad, which can be summed with a swipe.

2. Display quality

The 16-inch OLED panel has 4K UHD+ resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Furthermore, it gets comfortable viewing angles and a max brightness of 500 nits when you turn the HDR setting on. OLED panels also shine brightly iht their infinite contrast ratio and true black colors, due to the nature of the OLED technology, where the LEDs are lit individually and can simply b turned off to produce a black color. In terms of color coverage, the panel fully covers the sRGB and DCI-P3 gamuts.

However, not everything is great, as the panel also uses aggressive PWM to adjust brightness below 100 nits. Above 100 nits, the pulsations are small enough to not cause harm.

The color accuracy doesn’t improve a lot when we applied our Design and Gaming profile, lowering down the dE value from 4.0 to 3.6, which isn’t the change we would have hoped to see.

Here are the results with the factory settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Buy our profile

Office Work

3. Battery life

With a large 96Wh unit, the laptop lasts for 17 hours and 47 minutes of Web browsing, or around 11 hours of video playback, which is exceptional. As with all of our tests, we have the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2 reasons NOT to buy the ASUS VivoBook Pro 16X OLED (N7600)

1. I/O

The laptop has decent coverage, but two out of the three USB ports run at 2.0 speeds, which is archaic but should still be okay for connecting peripherals and whatnot. The third Type-A port runs at 3.2 speeds. Furthermore, you get a 3.5 mm audio jack, a MicroSD card slot, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an HDMI connector, and a power plug.

2. Upgradeability

Lastly, the upgradeability is less than ideal. The laptop has soldered memory, with ASUS offering up to 32GB of dual-channel RAM. The storage is expandable through a single M.2 PCIe x4 slot.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the single SSD slot.
