Fujitsu LifeBook U7512: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Fujitsu LifeBook U7512

1. Design and build quality

While Fujitsu has decided to embrace some of its old-school designs. It is polarizing, with some of the people at the office liking it, while others think it’s dated and should be replaced. At the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What we can say is that the gold finish on the outside looks good. Once you open the laptop, which is a bit difficult to do with one hand, you see the black keyboard section. It’s got a red stripe at the bottom for even more color. What we’re very happy with is the magnesium that’s used for the base and bottom panel, which makes the entire laptop feel sturdy. It also keeps it lightweight and thin, as for a 15.6-inch device, it weighs only 1.37 kg and has a profile of 19.1 mm. Speaking of the keyboard, it’s spill-resistant and has a backlight, while typing feels good thanks to the decent key travel and clicky feedback.

2. Upgradeability

Upgradeability is ample as there are two RAM slots hidden behind a metal cover, with labels where the screws are. They support up to 64GB of DDR4 memory. For storage, there’s one M.2 slot.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to upgrade the LifeBook U7512.

3. Display quality

The Fujitsu laptop is equipped with a Full HD IPS panel. It has great viewing angles and a peak brightness of 326 nits. The deviation is also really low, at just 3%, so the brightness is even and uniform. The contrast ratio is high as well, at 1670:1, ensuring deep blacks. The laptop is ready for color-sensitive work, with 99% sRGB coverage. Sadly, the panel does use some PWM below 80 nits, but you’d rarely go that low in terms of brightness. If you want to get rid of the issue completely, you can check out our Health-Guard profile.

The accuracy is even better, as even with the factory settings, we get a dE value of 2.1, which is very close to being usable out of the box. Once we applied our Design and Gaming profile, we see it go down even lower to 0.8, which is enough, since the human eye can’t distinguish values lower than 1.0. Here are the results of our test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

The 65Wh battery pack performs really well in our test, lasting for 14 hours and 27 minutes of Web browsing, or 10 hours and 54 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

1 reason NOT to buy the Fujitsu LifeBook U7512

1. Touchpad

It’s really tough to find something to gripe about when it comes to the LifeBook. However, if we had to complain about something, it would be the touchpad. Firstly, it has a small size, while the separate buttons don’t travel as much when pressed. On the other hand, the pad is responsive.
