Fujitsu LifeBook U9311X: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Fujitsu LifeBook U9311X

1. Design and build quality

Why don’t Fujitsu have a larger fanbase? From the looks of it, they offer well-built laptops. If we have to judge the LifeBook U9311X fairly, it stands taller than a lot of other laptops from well-known and established brands. The magnesium chassis is super sturdy and makes the device incredibly thin and light. In fact, the laptop stops the scales at 1.015 kg and has a profile of 16.9 mm, which is some of the lightest and thinnest that we have seen.

The lid does open with a single hand, but it is significantly bendier than the chassis, so be careful. However, opening the lid reveals a set of input devices that are unexpectedly better than we would have imagined. Despite the small body of the device, the keycaps are quite large and feel great to type on, which is further helped by the long key travel, clicky feedback, and backlight.

2. Display quality

The laptop comes with a crispy 13.3-inch Full HD IPS display, which at this resolution is very sharp. The panel has comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 309 nits in the middle of the screen, 308 nits as an average for the entire display area, and a maximum deviation of 7%. In terms of color coverage, the panel covers 97% of the sRGB color gamut. However, you should know that the display also uses PWM to adjust its brightness up until 79 nits, which is fixed completely with our Health-Guard profile.

The color coverage is also great, so you can definitely use the panel for color-sensitive work. Here are the results of our test with both the factory settings (left) and with our Design and Gaming profile applied (right).

Office Work

3. Battery life

The portable convertible comes with a massive for its size 50Wh unit, which lasts for  14 hours and three minutes of Web browsing, and 11 hours and 17 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

4. I/O

For such a small device, the I/O is packed with goodies. You get a total of two USB Type-A 3.2 Gen. 1 ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0 connector, a MicroSD card reader, an audio jack, a SIMcard slot, and a really well thought out RJ-45 port, which folds out and looks very cool.

1 reason NOT to buy the Fujitsu LifeBook U9311X

1. Upgradeability

Sadly, the upgradeability suffers, with all of the RAM being soldered onto the motherboard. Thankfully, the storage is upgradeable, through one M.2 PCIe x4 drive.

The teardown procedure includes a lot of screws, so watch carefully our teardown video, before you decide on performing surgery on your device.
