Lenovo ThinkBook 13x Gen 2: Full Specs / In-depth Review

2 reasons to BUY the Lenovo ThinkBook 13x Gen 2

1. Display quality

The QHD+ IPS panel of the laptop brings an incredibly sharp image at just a 13.3-inch diagonal. It has great viewing angles and reaches 424 nits at peak brightness. The color coverage is impressive, at 97% of the sRGB gamut.

It pairs really well with our Design and Gaming profile, reaching a dE value of 0.8. Here are the results of our accuracy test with both the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Office Work

2. Input devices

Despite the very slim chassis, which has a thickness of only 12.9 mm, the keyboard is pretty comfortable, mostly thanks to the clicky feedback. Naturally, the key travel is shorter, however, we still like typing on it. The touchpad perfectly fits with the laptop, as despite the smaller size, the glass cover and the responsiveness are great. On the base, you’ll also see the circular power button, which houses a fingerprint reader.

3 reasons NOT to buy the Lenovo ThinkBook 13x Gen 2

1. Upgradeability

Unfortunately, all of the RAM on the device is soldered onto the motherboard, with configurations going as high as 32GB of DDR5 memory. For storage, you have one M.2 slot for PCIe Gen 4 SSDs.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to access the single SSD slot of the ThinkBook 13x Gen 2.

2. Battery life

The situation with the battery is rather weird, with only 6 hours and 33 minutes of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 58 minutes of video playback. Its competitors deliver much better results as you can see from the chart below. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

3. I/O

The port selection of the notebook includes just two Thunderbolt 4 ports and an audio jack, which is rather scarce. However, in the box, you get dongles for USB Type-C to HDMI and USB Type-A, which is thoughtful and neat.

Be also aware that this laptop has sound compatibility issues with Linux. I installed Ubuntu 23.04 and noticed the BIOS ACPI settings was missing parameters required by the CS35L41 amplifier chip driver, resulting in the internal speakers not working.
