Lenovo V15 Gen 2 – Top 5 Pros and Cons

Cheap vs Affordable? While the words may sound similar, they can mean totally different things. Today we have the Lenovo V15 Gen 2, which will be either cheap or affordable, depending on if it can provide enough quality features to the table.

The V-series from Lenovo has been known for its cost-cutting measures, but with advancements in tech, every year it gets easier to make a quality device that doesn’t cost a lot. You can equip the laptop with up to a Ryzen 7 5700U, which still has good performance, despite using the older Zen 2 architecture. These CPUs are still capable and offer a good price to performance ratio.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Lenovo V15 Gen 2.

Lenovo V15 Gen 2: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Lenovo V15 Gen 2

1. Input devices

It’s great to see how even budget notebooks can offer quality keyboards. This V15 comes with a decent unit that offers spill-resistance, decent key travel, and rather clicky feedback. There isn’t a backlight, however, the keycaps are decently large. We find it pretty good that the power button is separated from the keyboard itself, eliminating the chance of accidentally turning off your laptop. The touchpad, while not the best, really surprised us with its tracking and accuracy.

2. I/O

The I/O isn’t perfect, but it still covers the basics. There are two USB Type-A ports, with one of them running at 2.0 speeds and better be left for a mouse, while the other runs at 3.2 (Gen. 1) speeds. There’s also a single USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an HDMI 1.4b connector, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and an Ethernet port.

3. Battery life

The laptop offers a 38Wh battery, which is shockingly low but paired with the power-efficient Ryzen chips, it lasts for 10 hours and 19 minutes of Web browsing, or 7 hours and 30 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

4. Performance

The Ryzen 5 5500U is a wrecking shop in the budget laptop space, bringing unprecedented performance to the table. Where competitors are employing the help of Tiger Lake U-based Core i3 or Core i5 chips, or even Celerons and Pentiums for that matter, the V15’s 6-core 12-thread AMD CPU makes quick work of all of them.

1 reason NOT to buy the Lenovo V15 Gen 2

1. Display quality

The laptop’s 768p TN screen should be deleted from reality, as its poor viewing angles and uneven brightness have no place in 2022. The max brightness isn’t low, measuring at 256 nits in the middle of the screen and 229 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 18%. However, the contrast ratio is very poor at 340:1. Color coverage and accuracy aren’t up to par as well, sitting at 54% sRGB coverage.

The accuracy got better when we applied our Design and Gaming profile, but it still wasn’t enough to be used for color-sensitive work. Here are the results of the test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).
