The Core i5-1035G7 is a great mid-range Ice Lake CPU – we already saw that it’s faster and cheaper than powerful Kaby Lake-R processors like i7-8650U. On top of that, the 10nm CPU is equipped with one of the most powerful iGPUs on the market – Intel Iris Plus G7.

What about a high-end Comet Lake CPU versus Core i5-1035G7? The Core i7-i7-10510U looks like a good competitor to our Ice Lake processor because it has the same core count and it’s a 10th gen CPU as well but with a 14nm tech process. So, it’ll be a mid-range Ice Lake Core i5 vs a high-end Comet Lake Core i7. Let’s see the final result a bit down below.

Quick Specs

Intel is asking $320.00 for i5-1035G7 and $409.00 for i7-10510U (28% price difference). The Comet Lake CPU is a much more expensive product than is Ice Lake competitor.

Specs-wise, those two processors aren’t that different. They have some similarities like the same core and thread count (4 cores and 8 threads) and the same TDP values. Despite the Core i7-10510U is undoubtedly the faster chip, we would give the win to the Intel Core i5-1035G7. This is mostly to its much faster integrated video card and it dissipates less heat. Additionally, the Ice Lake CPU consumes less power and that’s why it’s more battery-friendly and you can find it in some super slim device thanks to its 10nm tech process. The i5-1035G7 is a more affordable option (according to the official data from Intel. You can use it for casual every-day tasks such as Web browsing and you can watch 4K content with it, or for example, you can convert videos using Handbrake, or maybe you can edit photos with Photoshop. After that, you can enjoy some games like DOTA 2 or CS:GO and those games run great with this CPU / GPU combo.

No, the i7-10510U isn’t a bad product. It’s just too expensive for what it is. Its performance isn’t that far away from its Comet Lake Core i5 siblings (like i5-10210U) but unfortunately, the i7 chip is much more expansive than them. Yes a 28% higher price tag, you have the a bigger computational performance than the i5-1035G7, but a bit higher power consumption, and much slower iGPU. Not a bad deal, if you value pure power, but the iGPU plays a big role in gaming, as well as video editing.
