1. Battery life

Starting off strong, the Ryzen 5 5625U that’s inside the laptop lasts for 9 hours and 24 minutes of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 49 minutes of video playback. All of that is from a small 41Wh unit. We conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2. Upgradeability

The laptop has good upgradeability, with two SODIMM slots for DDR4 RAM and one M.2 slot for PCIe Gen 3 SSDs.

3. Input devices

We’re really surprised by the keyboard of the device. While it falls short when it comes to feedback, the key travel is long, which still delivers a comfortable typing experience. The board also spans from side to side and has a NumPad. The touchpad is wider than the display, which may feel weird for some people, however, it’s very responsive.

4. Display quality

At this price point, we don’t expect a Creator-ready display, and we just want a good one for daily use. Thankfully, the HP 15s covers that aspect, as its Full HD IPS panel delivers good viewing angles, a peak brightness of 287 nits, and a contrast ratio of 1340:1. It covers about 52% of the sRGB gamut, while delivering decent, but not great accuracy, both with the stock settings and with our Design and Gaming profile applied.

1. Build quality

Expectedly, the HP 15s is built entirely from plastic. However, we still expected some structural support on the inside, but got none, as both the base and the lid are flexy and can be easily snapped in half if the need arises. With a weight of 1.69 kg and a profile of 17.9 mm, the laptop will be appealing to the pursuers of a thinner and more portable laptop, however, it also increases the chance of it being destroyed in seconds.
