3 reasons to BUY the Acer Aspire 5 (A515-56G)

1. The Design

Starting off with the design, this new Aspire 5 features aluminum for the lid and plastic for everything else. While the materials used are not the most premium, the portability of the device is excellent. It weighs only 1.65Kg and has a profile of 17.9mm.

2. The Upgradeability

One area where Acer, has improved the device is in the upgradability category. When you remove the bottom panel, which is held down by 11 Phillips heаd screws, you are greeted by the internals of the machine. While half of the RAM is soldered onto the board, there is one SODIMM slot for further expandability. As for the storage, there is one M.2 PCIe x4 slot, as well as a 2.5-inch SATA drive bay, which has its connectors included.

3. The Battery life

Keeping the theme of internals, going over to the battery, the Acer has implemented a 50Wh unit, which in our battery tests managed to endure 9 hours and 18 minutes of Web Browsing and 7 hours and 56 minutes of video playback, which is good and can last you a whole day.

1. The Display

The 15-inch Full HD panel that Acer has chosen for their new Aspire 5 has comfortable viewing angles, good maximum brightness and contrast ratio, and a flicker-free backlight, which your eyes will love you for. What is bad about it is the fact that it only covers 51% of the sRGB color gamut, meaning that you only see half the colors on the internet.

The color accuracy isn’t great either and even our Gaming and Web design profile wasn’t able to put it within the standard.

2. The Build quality

Lastly, we have to mention the build quality. While we have seen other devices that use plastic for the chassis, here on this Acer, it is just a little bit too flexible. The same could also be said about the lid, despite it being made out of aluminum. The keyboard is unimpressive, with its feedback being different for every key. The key travel is too short, considering the size of the laptop.
