With the competition from AMD getting scarier and scarier, Intel needs an edge that can help them fight off AMD’s invasion. Tiger Lake was and still is pretty promising even when it first debuted with the U-series. Now it’s time for the big boys to enter the ring, as the company revealed their Tiger Lake H45 series of processors, which have high TDP and high clock speeds, allowing them to reach a new level of performance.

Today we have one of the more popular Tiger Lake units, the Core i7-11800H, which is overall the best bang for the buck Tiger Lake chip. Against it, we have the Core i7-10875H, which is now a year old, but still has that sweet single-core performance that Intel CPUs are known for.

CPU benchmarks

In the 3D Rendering test with Cinebench 20, the Core i7-11800H scored 30% higher, which is a significant improvement, but not as much as we would have hoped for. In the 2D Rendering test with Adobe Photoshop, the new Core i7 won again, finishing the benchmark with a lead of nearly half a second.

Conclusion

Tiger Lake is definitely an improvement for Intel and it will prove to be a valuable contender to AMD, especially in the 2D Rendering field, where they shine the most. Now, to go back to the comparison, the Core i7-10875H definitely got outclassed, but still offers great performance, just not on the level of its successor. It is still a viable option in 2021, especially if you find a sweet deal on it, so you should be on the lookout, now more than ever, since with the new Tiger Lake releases, laptops with older processors, will be going down, in terms of price.
