You may have seen our Slow Motion comparison between iPhone 6’s “SLO-MO” and Xperia Z3+’s “Time Shift”, so it’s time to check the capabilities of their software stabilization systems. It seems that Sony has more advanced IS called Intelligent Active. It takes advantage of the integrated gyroscope – before saving the video on the internal memory, IA reads the registered motion values of the gyroscope and crops the picture (that’s why you can’t use IA in 4K shooting) so it can balance the unnecessary shaking.

On the other hand, Apple’s software stabilization works great but as always, they don’t reveal anything about the algorithm.
