Good news for the Galaxy Note fans – Samsung has just unveiled its latest phablet flagship – Galaxy Note 5. Just as promised, the new smartphone features a completely overhauled design following the same design signature as the one we saw in the Galaxy S6. We have glass on the back and aluminum frame all-around with small curves around the edges for better grip – a nice finishing touch there.

However, the design isn’t the only thing that the Note 5 has in common with the S6. The hardware inside is almost the same – octa-core Exynos 7420 CPU with 4 clusters of [email protected] GHz and 4 clusters of Cortex-A57@ 2.1 GHz, but this time the SoC is paired with 4GB of RAM and Mali-T760MP8 GPU while the internal storage is 32GB or 64GB. No 128GB option and no microSD card support which is a bit of a letdown to be honest. Some users will also miss the option of easily replaceable battery, but luckily the new Note 5 supports quick charging and wireless charging which will surely ease the “pain” of not having swappable battery.

The screen remains at 5.7″ with the same QHD resolution and Super AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The camera sensor is identical to the one found in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, but it has a neat feature to stream live on YouTube in Full HD resolution. The S Pen has been improved as well with tons of new features added – you can take notes on turned off screen, the hover feature offers more functionality, you can sign PDF documents directly etc. Samsung also says that the sensitivity of the pen has been improved and the materials used for the making of the stylus are now metal. It feels more premium and comfortable to write and hold. Samsung has put a 3000 mAh battery to run the show which is a little less than last year’s Note 4, but we will be sure about the battery performance once we get our hands on it. The good news, however, is that the new Note is smaller in every way – thinner, slimmer, and narrower compared to its predecessor.

As for the Galaxy S6 Edge+, just imagine a bigger S6 Edge model that shares the same specs as the Galaxy Note 5. It is aimed mainly to multimedia-oriented consumers. What are your thoughts on the new models? Do they live up to your expectations or you prefer the Galaxy Note 4 for your daily driver?
