Dell Latitude 14 9430 review – classic performance from a classy product

Design and construction

Now, let’s take the laptop out of its box, and check out its design. Unsurprisingly, it looks absolutely stunning. It has simple lines, a super sleek look, and amazing build quality.

The material of use here is metal all around (most probably aluminum). The official documents say that the laptop is super thin – between 8.46 and 13.94mm. In terms of weight, we are talking about 1.29 kg – not the lightest out there but definitely makes the laptop have substance.

Despite the strong structure, we have to mention that the front of the machine is a little flexy. You just can’t expect anything different given how thin it is.

Next, let’s open the lid. This can be done with one hand up about the 90° angle. The bezels around the matte display are extremely thin. As you can see, the top one houses a Full HD Web camera. It is paired with an IR face recognition scanner, an electromagnetic privacy shutter (activated by the “F9” button), and an array of proximity sensors.

This allows your laptop to know when you are getting away from your device, so it can log out, and turn the display off. Trust us, it is difficult to get used to not having this function.

By the way, the lid acts as a lever when you pass a certain opening angle. Indeed, we find it too wide, but it does a great job of supplying fresh air to the fan. You can really hear it suffocating when the backside of the base hits the ground.

Even though the notebook is so thin, the keyboard still comes with decent key travel. In addition, its feedback is clicky, which makes it pretty comfortable to use. Moreover, it is backlit. On the other hand, there is no mention of spill resistance, which is a disadvantage to its Lenovo competitors.

In the top right corner of the keyboard, there is the power button. It has an LED and doubles as a fingerprint reader. In case you haven’t noticed, there are two speakers placed around the keyboard. And the touchpad is great – glass surface, smooth texture, and accurate tracking are the only description you need for this product.

Turn the laptop upside down, and you will see two more speakers and a ventilation grill. Hot air, respectively, is blown out of the device, through the right part of the machine.

Ports

On the left side, there is a security lock slot, an HDMI 2.0 connector, two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, a MicroSD card reader, and an Audio jack. There can be an optional SIM card tray, which will be located right below the MicroSD card slot. Lonely on the right side, there is a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port.
