Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 4 (Intel) review – impressively snappy super light business notebook with some shortcomings

Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life

Max CPU load

In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

The Core i7-1355U ticking under the bonnet can boost to pretty high P and E core clocks (and power limits) in short and medium loads. That’s impressive, especially for a 13-incher. The temperature in the middle run is high but that’s expected given the thin and light chassis. In longer stress, the frequencies are high enough for snappy performance and the thermals are pleasant.

Comfort during full load

During heavy load, the single fan isn’t noisy and the keyboard gets warm in the center but it’s still comfortable enough for work. As expected, the performance presets are integrated into the Windows default power modes.

In idle, the CPU fan is spinning at ~3300 RPM while under heavy CPU stress, the rotation speed is ~5200 RPM.

Battery

Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. This laptop’s 54.7Wh battery lasts for 16 hours and 40 minutes of either Web browsing or video playback.
