ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Acronym review – robust and fashionable beast of a tablet

Verdict

Whether this is primarily a gaming device or a fashion statement, we can’t really tell. We surely know that it is not for everybody. But on the other hand, regardless of the way you feel about the design, its hardware is nothing short of impressive.

It is always nice to have a breath of fresh air in our office, and the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Acronym is definitely an open window to the Alpine forests. Its extravagance is matched by fantastic handling of the power, balancing between performance and efficiency to give you a product that will never disappoint.

Let’s start with the display. ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Acronym’s IPS panel has a high maximum brightness, WQXGA resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. We are happy to see full sRGB and 99% DCI-P3 color coverage, with the latter being pretty accurate too with default settings. However, if you want to take things one step further – get our Gaming and Web design profile.

So, obviously, this is a 165Hz panel. As such, it is pretty snappy. An attestation for this is the super fast pixel response times, which make the entire experience extremely smooth. This is also good, considering the MUX Switch, which lets your dedicated GPU connect directly with the display for maximum performance.

Now, in terms of battery, things don’t look too bad. On one hand, if we consider this device as a tablet – 9 hours and 30 minutes of Web browsing, or 7 hours of video playback is not much. However, from the perspective of a really powerful gaming machine, these results are simply amazing.

Actually, one of the main reasons you can get such a good battery life and fantastic performance is the Armoury Crate app. It allows you to toggle through a bunch of different performance presets. In addition, you can choose a setting that allows the display to work at 60Hz when on battery power to preserve energy.

You have to keep one thing in mind with this machine – its 65W RTX 4070 won’t be on par with more powerful iterations of the same GPU. We are talking about a difference of between 10 and 30% when compared to the 105W RTX 4070 inside the MSI Stealth 16 Studio (A13V).

However, they are completely different pieces of hardware, and it is nothing short of impressive how ASUS manages to pull such a performance from what is essentially a tablet.

One major flaw of this concept is upgradeability or the lack thereof. On the bright side, you get plenty of RAM with the 32GB LPDDR5 memory soldered to the motherboard. Moreover, there is an M.2 PCIe x4 slot, which supports 30mm Gen 4 SSDs. It is extremely easy to access via a tiny door beneath the kickstand.

At the end of the day, this fashion statement of a product won’t be a best seller. However, it will make happy all three people that are going to buy it.

From 1st hand experience the z13 is rubbish build quality. Liquid metal cpu paste has leaked at 1 year needing motherboard replacement. Keyboard also broken only works when flat. Laptop does not sleep when cover closed as sensor is crap also
