The new ASUS ROG GU501 is an affordable Zephyrus M

If you’re into gaming and laptops, chances are that you’ve already seen the new ASUS ROG Zephyrus M GM501 (Full Specs). Core i7-8750H, GeForce GTX 1070 in a super-thin body of 19.9 mm (0.78”) at its thickest point. Currently, Zephyrus M GM501 is priced at $2199 for configuration with 1TB HDD, 256GB SSD, and 16GB RAM (or up to $5349 for the most powerful one).

But what if your budget is much lower and you love the great design? Here comes the new GU501 which is almost the same notebook but has several cuts which reduce the price significantly. GU501 has GeForce GTX 1060 (the standard Not-Max-Q version) instead of the GTX 1070 in GM501. The 15.6”, Full HD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, IPS screen is replaced with 120 Hz IPS-Level display.

Also, while the GM501 and its predecessor GX501V had a special cooling construction which rises the case when you open the lid, GU501 doesn’t. Well, we guess it doesn’t need it since GTX 1060 uses much less energy for cooling (~80W) than GTX 1070 Max-Q (~115W) and GTX 1080 Max-Q (~150W).

The starting price of ROG GU501GM will be around $1299 for a configuration with 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD, and its expected to hit the market soon.
