Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 (15, Gen 8) review – decent unpretentious budget daily driver
You don’t need an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D or Intel Core i9-14900HX for just browsing the Web or checking your email. In this case, a non-power-hungry CPU is a much better choice. If you need a laptop for casual daily or office usage, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 (15″, Gen 8) is one of the possible solutions. It doesn’t cost a fortune and it comes with an AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU under the hood. Actually, you can choose between three refreshed Zen 3 Barcelo-U chips. We have tested a lot of laptops with these processors and right off the bat we can say that their efficiency is very good by default.
Even iGPUs here are still fine for casual gaming if the system memory works in dual-channel mode. Since this laptop falls into the inexpensive category, it’s not a surprise that the base display option is a 1080p TN panel. Unless your budget is ultra-tight, we can advise you to get a notebook with an optional IPS display that has much better viewing angles. There is even a touchscreen variant which is a rare find at this price point.
The I/O of the machine is decent, and the same goes for the connectivity – Wi-Fi 5 (or 6) + Bluetooth 5.1. Lenovo describes this machine as “a smart and reliable travel partner”. Yep, that’s one of the positive sides of the plastic builds – the low weight. If you are constantly on the go, perhaps you will be happy that the laptop isn’t thick so it’ll fit with ease in most backpacks.
