HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13-be0000): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13-be0000)

1. Design and build quality

The laptop seems to be made from plastic, but that doesn’t mean the durability is affected, as the chassis is very durable, with next to no flexing or popping from the base. The lid, on the other hand, is quite soft. In terms of weight and height, the laptop device definitely deserves the Aero name, weighing 998 grams and having a profile of 16.9 mm.

The lid opens easily with one hand, revealing an edge-to-edge keyboard with long key travel and clicky feedback. Ultimately it is fantastic for typing. Below it, we see a touchpad with some latency, but otherwise smooth tracking and accurate tracking.

2. Battery life

The laptop’s 43Wh battery does seem small, but you have to factor in the weight and available space. It lasts for 11 hours and 11 minutes of Web browsing, or 9 hours and a half of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

3. I/O

Despite the thin profile, the I/O manages to cover a decent amount of ground, with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) that use a jaw-drop mechanism, in order to save some space, a UBS Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an HDMI 2.0 connector, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

4. Display quality

The display is straight-up phenomenal. With a 13.3-inch diagonal, Full HD resolution, and an IPS panel, it is very crispy, providing detailed images. Furthermore, it has comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 473 nits in the middle of the screen and 472 nits average across the surface. All in all, the uniformity of the brightness is great. The contrast ratio is also decent – 1000:1.

The panel covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut.

The color accuracy was a bit off with the stock settings, but once we applied our Design and Gaming profile, the dE value went down to 1.0, which cements it as one of the better displays for color-sensitive work. Here are the results with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Office Work

1 reason NOT to buy the HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13-be0000)

1. Upgradeability

Unfortunately, with the small size, sacrifices had to be made, and memory upgradeability is one of the first things to go. The RAM is soldered onto the motherboard but can be configured with up to 16GB of dual-channel DDR4 RAM working at 3200 MHz. In terms of storage, there is a single M.2 PCIe x4 SSD slot.
