There are also two display offerings, with a TN panel, which shouldn’t even be an option in 2022. All in all, if you’re in need of a business laptop that can do more than spreadsheets and presentations, you’ve come to the right place, as if specced out appropriately, this laptop can be a powerful little beast.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the HP ProBook 430 G8.

HP ProBook 430 G8: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the HP ProBook 430 G8

1. Design and build quality

The laptop uses a combination of plastic and metal for its body, with the latter being used for the lid. The laptop is well built, but there is still some flex from both the lid and the base. The lid also opens easily with one hand, revealing a matte display with decently-thin bezels, a Webcam on top, and an HP logo on the bottom. The same logo is also found on the back of the lid, which sports sharp edges and round corners. Its hinges are also very thin, allowing the lid to lay flat on a surface.

2. Input devices

Going down from the lid, the base features two speaker cutouts on the sides. In the middle of them, we find a great keyboard with long key travel, despite the thin 17.5 mm profile, and clicky feedback. The unit is quiet enough for office use, while also offering a comfortable typing experience. Then we have the touchpad, which has a basic plastic cover but gives smooth gliding and accurate tracking.

3. I/O

The sides of the laptop house the I/O, which more than covers the basics, offering two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a single USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a MicroSD card reader, and an HDMI 1.4b connector.

4. Battery life

As the notebook uses the power-efficient Tiger Lake U-series of CPUs, it can do just fine with a 45Wh battery unit. Our tests show that the ProBook 430 G8 lasts for 10 hours and 44 minutes of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 20 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

1 reason NOT to buy the HP ProBook 430 G8

1. Display quality

There are two displays to pick from. The base model has a TN panel with a resolution of 1366 x 768p, which we won’t comment on. We tested the second option, which increases the resolution to Full HD and uses an IPS panel, which is already better. The display has excellent viewing angles, a max brightness of 285 nits in the middle of the screen, 278 nits as an average across the surface with a maximum deviation of 6%, and a contrast ratio of 1470:1. All in all, the brightness uniformity is good.

On the other hand, the 56% sRGB coverage is a bummer, as so far the laptop had everything going for it, and good color reproduction would have pushed it even further.

The accuracy also suffers with both the factory settings (left) and with our Design and Gaming profile applied (right).
