How to open Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ – disassembly and upgrade options
Step 1: Accessing the Internal Components
- Ensure the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ is powered off and placed on a soft, clean surface to prevent scratches or damage.
- Remove the 9 Torx-head screws from the bottom of the laptop.
- Use a plastic tool to gently pry the bottom plate off, starting from the zone between the hinges.
Hint: Be gentle during this process to avoid damaging the internal clips or the laptop casing.
Step 2: Removing the Battery
- Disconnect the battery by pulling out its connector from the motherboard.
- Remove the 4 Phillips-head screws securing the battery to the laptop’s chassis, then lift the 57Wh battery away from the device.
Caution: Handle the battery and its connector with care to avoid any damage.
More info: The 57Wh battery provides up to 12 hours and 30 minutes of web browsing or 8 hours and 20 minutes of video playback, a commendable performance given the device’s specifications.
Memory
The Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ comes with soldered 32GB of LPDDR5-4800MHz RAM in dual-channel mode. Unfortunately, upgrades are not possible. However, 32GB RAM are enough for almost any type of professional work.
Storage Upgrade
- Identify the two M.2 slots for storage upgrades, one compatible with Gen 4 SSDs and the other with Gen 3 NVMes. Consider upgrading to enhance the laptop’s storage capacity and performance.
- The preinstalled SSD benefits from additional cooling provided by a thermal pad on the inside of the metal bottom plate.
