Design

The Spectre is entirely made from metal, which makes it rigid and durable. What’s more, is that the metal is recycled, so you’ll sleep well knowing that you’re not putting any excess strain on the environment. The iconic design feature of the cut-off corners is here as well, housing parts of the I/O, but we’ll talk more about it down below. For a 16-inch device, it’s not heavy, weighing only 2.01 kg and with a profile of just 19.81 mm. The black finish looks really good, while the silver accents on the sides and the HP logo really give it an expensive feel.

Display

The display selection includes a 3K IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It reaches 400 nits of brightness and has 100% sRGB coverage. The second option includes a 4K UHD+ OLED panel with the same 400 nit brightness, but an increased 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

Specifications and features

There are two CPU options, either the Core i7-1260P, with 12 cores and 16 threads. If you want more power, you can rely on the Core i7-12700H, which uses its 14 cores and 20 threads to full effect, currently holding the #2 place in our Top Laptop CPU Ranking.

As for graphics, along with the integrated Iris Xe Graphics, which are still very good and can handle a lot of heavy work, you can equip the laptop with the Arc A370M, with a 50W power limit and 4GB of GDDR6 memory. The GPU isn’t the best for gaming, thanks to its poor drivers, however, it brings a lot of hardware encoding support, Intel Quick Sync and AV1 encoder support, which is an open-source encoding format for video. It’s considered the future of streaming and all types of video, as it’s free to use and has much higher data compression than the very popular x246 codec.

Here is our dedicated article about gaming on Intel Arc, along with the 40 games that we tested on it.

Lastly, the I/O consists of one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
