Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s is a great business laptop that is just a few steps away from being considered a true workstation machine. It’s got the power, the I/O, the display, the build quality, and the security so you should have no problem with entrusting it with all of your valuable information. But that doesn’t make it the perfect device.

Here are our Top 5 picks about the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s.

3 reasons to buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s

1. The performance

Both CPU configurations are top-notch when it comes to performance. In order to get the best package, of course, you should go with the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U, but even if you opt for the less powerful configuration, which sports the Ryzen  PRO 4650U, the laptop will still deliver a great experience, in terms of performance. Both CPUs are in the top 20 of our Top Laptop CPU Ranking.

2. The display

The ThinkPad T14s features a 14-inch Full HD display, with a model number Innolux N140HCR-GL2 (LEN40AD). It comes with its own Privacy Guard which lowers the brightness to 40%, ensuring that people standing near you can’t peak at your screen and look at what’s on it. Another great feature of this display is the color coverage(96% of the sRGB spectrum and an average dE value of 0.7), which becomes even better when paired with our display profiles.

3. The build quality

The laptop’s body consists of a bunch of rare materials. The base is made of magnesium alloy, which sheets are stronger and thinner. The lid is made out of CFRP. That’s an acronym that stands for Carbon fiber reinforced polymer, essentially a combination of polymer resin that is reinforced with carbon fiber. The spill-proof keyboard also assures that the laptop can withstand both mother nature and its clumsy owner. All of these allow the laptop to be lighter (1.27 kg to be precise), thinner, and really durable.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s

1. The battery life

As for the battery life, the ThinkPad managed to withstand 10 hours of web-surfing and 9 hours of video playback. While these are good results, that’s all they are, just good. It’s a shame that they don’t stand up to the other great qualities of the laptop, because we believe that better battery life could have put this device over the top.

In order to simulate real-life conditions, we used our own script for automatic web browsing through over 70 websites.

For every test like this, we use the same video in HD.

2. The upgradeability

Since the RAM is non-removable, there is no option to add more in the future, or even replace it with better. Also, there is only one M.2 slot, that is already taken so if you ever decide you’d have to replace it and can’t double up on storage.
