Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 (16″, 2023) review – a better, slightly more expensive version of the IdeaPad Slim 3

Verdict

This laptop can be characterized by its build quality, performance (to some extent), and efficiency. Because of its chipset and relatively large battery, it can last for up to 14 hours of Web browsing. This should be plenty for you to get an entire workday’s worth of use on a single charge.

While some other factors, like the upgrade options, are not stellar, we have to embrace the future. There, soldered memory is as common as the laptop having a keyboard.

On the other hand, you have to be careful, because the 8GB option is only configured to work at single-channel. This won’t be an issue with daily use, but if you try playing games, your fps will be decreased.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 (16″, 2023)’s IPS panel has a WUXGA resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. Its backlight doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment, which is great, however, the color coverage is quite limited. If you need the device for color-sensitive work, the 1600p IPS panel should be a better option, as it allegedly covers 100% of sRGB.

In contrast to the IdeaPad Slim 3, this machine features an aluminum body, which is pretty strong. Moreover, you get two USB Type-C ports (against one), both of which support Power Delivery and DisplayPort output. This time, the latter is a 1.4.

On top of that, you get an optional fingerprint, and IR face recognition scanners. The improvements over the IdeaPad Slim 3 are justifying the slightly higher price tag, in our opinion, and we would recommend getting the IdeaPad Slim 5 (16″, 2023) if you can afford it, of course.
