First impressions of the Honor 6 Plus – a 5.5-inch, high-end smartphone with 3 cameras

Honor 6 Plus is a very interesting smartphone, so we are glad to announce that we have it in our lab, and we’re going to be putting it through our detailed tests. Before we share the full review, we’ve prepared a first impressions post for you.

Cameras are going to be a key accent here. Why? Well, there’s three of them – two on the back and one in front (all 8MP sensors). According to the manufacturer this will deliver better details and image quality. It also gives you the ability to set the focus after the photo is taken. Thanks to a special technology and software algorithms, you can take 13MP shots, and the autofocus is super-fast – 0.1 second. The two lenses provide more light which will have a positive impact on the quality of photos taken at night. Much like in HTC’s UltraPixel camera, the pixels here are bigger. We will write more about the capabilities of the camera in our upcoming review after the tests are done, but for now, we can say that the first couple of photos we took look amazing. We’ll dedicate a a piece to them very soon, so stay tuned.

We’re looking forward to testing the performance provided by the HiSilicon Kirin 925 CPU. It consists of 4 Cortex-A7 cores, operating at 1.3GHz and, 4 Cortex-A15 cores at 1.8GHz. A Mali-T624 and 3GB of RAM are also present. So far the device has been running smoothly, and as expected, even the most demanding games are no match for it.

Speaking of games, the Emotion UI 3.0 user interface includes a whole folder full of different titles. Additionally,  thanks to the variety of modes and functionality, the software is one of the biggest advantages the device provides you with, and that’s far from being all.

Some of the major manufacturers like Samsung and Sony chose to make the rear panels of their leading models out of glass. Honor 6 Plus also joins this group. Moreover, Huawei have claimed that the glass is extremely strong, and even go as far as to compare it to a military helmet. The sides make a nice impression, with their silver, metal-like strips, which add a touch of class and elegance. The phone is only 7.5 mm thick and weighs 165 grams – good parameters for a 5.5-inch smartphone.

The resolution is Full HD – that sets the device apart from most current flagships and their QHD screens, but images are sufficiently detailed. The pixel density is 401 ppi (pixels per inch). The battery is huge, as expected – 3600 mAh, which sounds promising, so we look forward to seeing the results from our battery tests.
