ASUS ZenFone Go (ZC500TG) is yet another smartphone that we are currently testing and preparing a full review of. It is a budget model that has to deal with a lot of competition in this saturated market segment. Before presenting the full review, however, we would like to share with you this short article describing our first impressions.

As expected, the model comes in a plastic body. The back is matte, and fingerprints are visible only from a particular angle, or at least this is the case with the white version we are currently testing. Also, the back panel is removable, and this allows you to access the battery, two microSIM card slots, as well as a microSD card slot. Additionally, the sides are a bit thicker but this does not mean it will be difficult to hold the device in one hand. On the contrary, the grip is comfortable. The shape of the device also contributes to this fact – it is rounded and chamfered along the edges. This is why the 10 mm thick profile feels a lot thinner.

Furthermore, the display itself is 5-inch with a resolution of 1280 х 720 p. The pixel density is around 294 ppi, which is reasonable for this price range. Apart from that, there is also an IPS panel that ensures bright and saturated colors.

ZenFone Go is powered by a MediaTek chip – MT6580. It features four Cortex-A7 cores, ticking up to 1.3 GHz. Our first impressions are that it ensures relatively smooth and nice operation with this device. Also responsible for this are the available 2 GB of RAM. Here is what the first two benchmarks show.

This ASUS model uses Android 5.1 Lollipop which is entirely customized by the ASUS Zen UI. You will find a good number of pre-installed apps such as PhotoCollage, Share Link, Do it Later, Clean Master, Dr. Safety, Quick Memo, SuperNote, and many others. On the other hand, the settings menu contains useful features such as the option of creating shortcuts for certain apps that can be launched by writing a letter on the screen when it’s locked or turned off.

ZenFone Go (ZC500TG) features an 8MP camera with an LED flash, autofocus and f/2.0 maximum aperture. We were impressed by the fact that its menu contains many modes, as well as a long list of additional settings. You can expect more information about them in the coming full review. Below you can find several test shots we took in auto mode. The model is capable of Full HD video recording. On the other hand, the front-facing camera is only 2MP but it features some useful modes and features such as HDR, selfie panorama, Beauty mode, and others.
