We have prepared for you another Top 5 but this time but this time it is about best-selling laptops on LaptopMedia for the previous month.
#5 Starting from the bottom up, the 5th place goes to the convertible Lenovo Yoga 520 (Flex 5) (14-inch). In terms of design, this budget hybrid boasts excellently built chassis that appears quite rigid, aluminum interior with chamfered edges and excellent input devices. It also impresses with its Full HD IPS display that features high contrast ratio (1350:1). Another plus is the absence of PWM across all brightness levels making the screen safe for continuous work in this aspect. The only complaint we have is the rather modest battery life – the 48Wh battery unit scores less than average scores for its price range. For example, you get just 319 minutes for web browsing on a single charge.
#4 Moving on to the 4th place, here we see the gaming-oriented Acer Predator Helios 300 (15.6″). When it comes to design, the notebook is in a tight race with the Predator lineup and incorporates aluminum and plastic in its build. The chassis uses mainly aluminum, therefore it creates the feel of rigidity and sturdiness. The notebook is also fairly portable compared to its direct rivals such as the Lenovo Legion Y720. We should also note that the screen doesn’t use PWM across all brightness levels which is a huge plus. On the other hand, we are disappointed with the narrow sRGB coverage and low maximum brightness the IPS panel offers.
#3 It is time for the bronze medal which in our case goes to the gaming beast ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS. The construction of the laptop appears to be sturdy and reliable despite plastic being the main material employed for the build. In addition, the GL702VS surprisingly stands out in terms of portability compared to other 17-inch options on the market. You also get an excellent IPS panel with high maximum brightness (370 nits), wide sRGB coverage (90%), excellent contrast ratio (1050:1), G-Sync and 75Hz refresh rate. What’s more, our equipment didn’t record any pulsations across all brightness levels. However, during heavy workload, the GL702VS fails to impress and the GPU throttles. The battery life is another letdown as it shows mediocre runtimes.
#2 Next on our list comes the all-rounder Acer Aspire E5-576G. This is a very good budget-friendly laptop that, despite not packing powerful hardware, can handle your everyday tasks. In addition, it uses high-tech materials in its construction – the robust aluminum-magnesium chassis comes in a plastic body. When it comes to image quality, the display covers only 50% of sRGB/ITU-R BT.709 so half of the colors won’t be reproduced. However, on a more positive note, the screen isn’t PWM-adjusted for all brightness levels making it safe to use for long periods of time.
#1 And finally, our best-seller is the well-balanced all-rounder ASUS VivoBook F510. We liked its build quality despite the all-plastic exterior and interior which seems robust and good looking. The notebook also impresses with its portable dimensions – it measures at just 17.9 mm in height, and 1.65 kg weight. We are also pleased with the nice IPS panel that boasts high contrast ratio and it is not PWM-adjusted across all brightness levels. In terms of hardware, the available Intel Core i7-7500U and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (2GB GDDR5) manage to handle the usual office work, general browsing, multimedia and some light gaming. However, keep in mind that during extreme workload, the cooling system keeps inner temperatures high.
