[Comparison] Intel Core i7-11800H vs AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX – The hierarchy of power is shifting

Here it is, Tiger Lake H45 is finally here. Intel’s not-so-secret weapon against Zen 3 has big expectations as AMD keeps expanding its reach. What was happening only in the desktop CPU market has expanded and is now starting to cover the laptop market as well. Intel needed an answer and they needed it quickly. Now it’s here and that is why we are putting the best that we have on our hands right now against each other.

Here is our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, where you can check out the best performing processors.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i7-11800H against the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX.

CPU benchmarks

In the 3D Rendering test with Cinebench 20, the Core i7-11800H was surprisingly faster, ending the race with a 2% higher score. Moving over to the Adobe Photoshop benchmark, which tests the processors’ 2D Rendering capabilities, the Core i7-11800H was faster, finishing the benchmark with a pretty much non-existent lead of 0.01 seconds.

Conclusion

For the first time in a while, we would recommend an Intel CPU for 3D Rendering. The Core i7 performed slightly better than its opponent from AMD in both of our tests. Although the results were very close, this is definitely a win in Intel’s book, as they haven’t been this close to victory in a while. Of course, these scores vary from laptop to laptop, as they all use different cooling and power configurations. Ryzen is still a viable alternative, but that’s what is great about this. We don’t have one side destroying the other, so Intel and AMD will both improve at a faster pace, thus giving more value to you, the consumer.
