Specs overview

For starters, the entry-level Intel Core i5-8300H is based on the 8th gen Coffee Lake-H architecture. Manufactured through a 14nm process, the chip features a total of 4 cores and can execute up to 8 threads simultaneously thanks to the Hyper-Threading technology. Furthermore, Intel Core i5-8300H operates at a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and reaches up to 4.00 GHz in Turbo mode. The specs sheet is complemented by 8MB of L3 Cache, support for up to 2666 MHz dual-channel DDR4 memory controller with a maximum capacity of 64GB, as well as 45 W TDP including the iGPU. Speaking of which, the processor is also paired with the Intel UHD Graphics 630 which boasts 300MHz base clock and turbo boost frequency of 1.15 GHz.

Now let’s take a look at its competitor – the 8th gen Intel Core i7-8750H, the direct successor to the Core i7-7700HQ. Based once again on the Coffee Lake-H architecture, the chip is equipped with 6 cores, while still built on the same 14nm process. In terms of clock speeds, we have a base frequency ranging from 2.8 GHz to 2.2 GHz and a 4.1 GHz Turbo one. Core i7-8750H also supports the HyperThreading technology, thanks to which the processor can run up to 12 threads simultaneously. Other major specifications include 9 MB cache memory, dual-channel DDR4-2666 RAM, as well as a 45W TDP. The integrated GPU here is once again Intel UHD Graphics 630 clocked at 300-1150 MHz.

Benchmarks

For the purposes of this comparison, we have chosen to compare the performance of the two chips found in Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52 and ASUS TUF Gaming FX504 respectively. Judging by the charts above, the results speak for themselves – Intel Core i7-8750H outperforms its rival with around 26% when it comes to 3D rendering (tested with Cinebench 15). Furthermore, it is 9% faster than Intel Core i5-8300H in the Adobe Photoshop test. However, both chips show very close results in our raw synthetic benchmarks (tested with Fritz) – Intel Core i5-8300H surpasses its opponent with just 3%.

Conclusion

To sum things up, it may come as no surprise that today’s winner is the high-end Intel Core i7-8750H as it shows better results in 2/3 benchmarks and a similar performance in the third one.
