Intel is preparing Cannonlake to counter AMD’s Ryzen processors – what should we expect?
With the launch of the CPU series codenamed Ryzen AMD are trying to change its status quo. For the past few years, Intel has been undoubtedly leading the CPU market. The upcoming release next month of the Ryzen CPUs could not only help AMD to gain on Intel, it could even turn things around. Is it possible to see Intel at second place? If the answer to this question is positive it won’t stay this way for long. The “blue company” is planning on a new architecture which will counter the revolutionary AMD processors. It’s codenamed Cannonlake.
Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich was asked about the company’s intentions in a conversation with Deutsche Bank Securities. The emphasis of the question was about the competition in the PC segment. The conservative approach of the company against the aggressive competition which released a new architecture “for a first time in a while” was noted. The main question was what is the fundamental of Intel’s plans for the year.
Krzanich’s answer: “Sure. I would tell you that we always look at this environment and say there’s going to be a competitive risk in the environment. And we’re always focused on really, our own product roadmap and making sure that we have the highest performance product. So, when we look at 2017, we still believe that our product roadmap is truly the best ever it’s been”

The CEO mentioned that Intel has more upcoming premium products other that the Kaby Lake processors that will render the year successful. He was talking about the new Cannonlake products based on the 10 nm manufacturing process, the first of which was shown at CES. “…we’re still planning to ship by the end of this year and really ramp into 2018.” – he added – “That forecast was really much more a function of where we think the PC market really is overall.”
We are not completely sure what is going on inside Intel but it’s obvious that their passive approach is letting AMD gain on them. With the new SenseMI technology featured in the Ryzen products, users will be able to get the most out of their processors. The technology will allow the system to get personalized to fully fit the needs of the user. Maybe this will harm Intel which is giving information about a new architecture though their current one released less than a month ago. One thing is for sure – we can only speculate for now and we can’t know how things will turn out before Ryzen CPUs get launched. Until then we can just sit and wait.
