NVIDIA GeForce 940M shows around 10% performance leap over GeForce 840M in early benchmark results

We know that a lot of you are eager to know how some of upcoming NVIDIA GPUs part of the Maxwell family will score against their predecessors. We are happy to inform you that we have an engineering sample of the GeForce 940M. It uses A GM108M graphic processor or also known as N165-GT-S.

The 940M is equipped with 2GB of dedicated DDR3 memory, 8 ROPs, 32 texture units and 64-bit bus. The GPU is clocked at 1072MHz and can go up to 1176MHz when needed. Also, the memory’s frequency is 1001MHz. So, in general, last year’s 840M GPU has the same amount of shading units (384), a bit lower base clock of 1029MHz and again, slightly lower boost frequency – 1124MHz. However, as you can see from the table below, the 940M shows around 10% better performance over last year’s successor. Have you expected more or you are satisfied with the results? Keep in mind, though, that the GPU we’ve tested is an engineering sample, so until it’s released, results may differ.
