We recently have tested an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H-based machine and we were pretty happy with its overall performance. The AMD Zen 2 CPUs are a real deal, no matter the chip. In this case, the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H devices offer higher core count and lower price than the laptops with the Intel Core i7-10750H.

Since the Ryzen 7 4800H looks like the new mobile processor king it looks like a fair deal to be compared to the Core i7-10750H because most of the time, the laptops with this AMD CPUs are cheaper than the ones with i7-10750H. Respectively, the notebooks with the i7-10750H offer lower core count at a higher price, let’s see what AMD got up in their sleeve.

Quick Specs

As you may already know from our previous comparison, the Intel Core i7-10750H (Comet Lake) is a refreshed version of the i7-9750H (which is an i7-8750H with a bigger cache size and higher clocks). The Comet Lake processor has 6 cores and 12 threads while the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H (Zen 2) is equipped with 8 cores and 16 threads. Frequency-wise, the Intel CPU has a lower base clock compared to the AMD CPU (2.60 GHz to 2.90 GHz) but it has the upper hand with when it comes to the boost frequencies (4.80 GHz – 5.00 GHz to 4.20 GHz).

The Intel Core i7-10750H has a bigger L3 cache size compared to its opponent (12MB to 8MB) but the AMD CPU takes the lead with much higher supported memory frequencies – DDR4-3200MHz, LPDDR4-4266MHz while the Intel chip supports the more modest DDR4-2933. In addition, the TDPs are the same for both contenders – 45W. Last but not least, the Intel CPU is a 14nm chip while the AMD processor uses the much more advanced 7nm tech process which leads to lower heat dissipation and reduced power consumption, ergo – better battery life.

CPU Benchmarks

As you can see, the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H just destroys the Intel Core i7-10750H – 39% is a serious performance gap.

Verdict

Well, if we have to be honest there isn’t much to say after what we saw – the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H is clearly way faster when compared to its Intel rival. On top of that, the “red” devices cost less than the Intel’s notebooks so we think that you already know what we are going to say – there is no point to buy a laptop with Intel Core i7-10750H instead of a 4800H-based notebook. This Intel CPU has fewer cores and much lower performance when compared to the AMD processor. Moreover, the Core i7-9750H dissipates more heat because it just a 14nm chip.

The AMD Ryzen 7 4800H is a real winner – it’s a lot faster than the Intel Core i7-10750H, it uses a 7nm tech process, it has more cores, more power, it’s a bit more battery-friendly, and the machines that are equipped with it are pleasantly priced. These facts make this AMD CPU a much better purchase than the Intel product.
