Design and construction

You may be already acquainted with Dell’s mobile device from the previous juxtaposition, so now we start with its opponent – Acer Aspire V15 Nitro. We will also summarize what Inspiron 7559 has to offer, of course.

At first sight we can’t notice any significant difference between it and its predecessor, which is a plus, as we were very happy with Acer’s previous model. All this means that the quality this class offers is more than sufficient. We can “blame” this on the technology used for the production of the lid – Nanoimprint lithography. It allows engineers to combine several layers of plastic with aluminum, making the lid stronger and adding extravagance and style to the model.

In addition to plastic and aluminum, the upper part has a rubberized finish contributing to the better grip of the VN7-592G. Aluminum is also found in the interior, and we also find the two cooling vents moved to the back – an improvement. The keyboard is also a bit better which is great news to those of you who spend a lot of time typing (the red backlighting is also included).

Matte rubber covers the upper part of the lid and the interior of Dell Inspiron 7559. This means that its design can be described more as elegant than extravagant. Both models feature a NumPad section and their cooling vents are placed at the back; we shouldn’t also forget that the Inspiron 7559 offers a third side vent (on the left).

Another difference is the size. Owing to its technology, Acer’s model is lighter an thinner than its opponent – 2.3 kg vs 2.6 kg, respectively. Do bear this in mind, if you consider being with your laptop for the most part of your day. In the lines to come we shall see how the batteries hold up. Now we move on to the Dispaly section.

Display

Both devices feature 15.6″ Full HD IPS panels, which allow for very good gaming experience. Despite this, there are differences which tip the scales – let’s see in whose favor!

Acer Aspire V15 Nitro (VN7-592G) offers an LG LP156WF6-SPB1 panel. As we observed in our comparison between ASUS ROG G551 and ASUS ROG GL552, the laptops featured LG displays with relatively decent sRGB coverage. Well, you won’t be disappointed this time either, because the VN7-592G offers 90% coverage which will be great for most users (leaving aside those who deal with professional photo and video editing). As you may guess, the viewing angle are comfortable thanks to the IPS panel. Unfortunately, however, the VN7-592G uses PWM, and a frequency of 20.7 kHz can reduce the negative effect.

2

The Dell Inspiron also offers comfortable viewing angles because of its IPS panel, but the sRGB coverage is poor – only 55%. Nonetheless, colors are accurate with avg. dE2000 of 0.89, and 0.70 with VN7-592G – again Acer being one step ahead. PWM is also to be found in this model, and the negative effect can be reduced by a frequency lower than that needed for Acer’s model – 20.5 kHz.

We can’t argue here – undoubtedly, Acer is the winner. Its device offers more saturated colors and better sRGB coverage.

Specs sheet

We find different CPUs in the two laptops, and we shall learn more about them in the performance section. Both chips work with 4 physical cores and have the same consumption. Despite this, one of them offers the Hyper-Threading technology. This is the Intel Core i7-6700HQ which is in the VN7-592G. Owing to the already mentioned technology, this CPU provides 8 logical cores in total, whose full potential is engaged when you multitask. The base frequency is 2.6 GHz, which can be increased up to 3.5 GHz with the help of another Intel technology – Turbo Boost. Dell Inspiron’s CPU is the Core i5-6300HQ, with base frequency of 2.3 GHz that can be increased p to 3.2 GHz.

If you are wondering if the Intel Core i5-6300HQ is suitable for gaming, you can read our article comparing the Intel Core i5-6300HQ to the Intel Core i7-6700HQ.

Battery

From the previous comparison we know that the Dell Inspiron 7559 has a very solid battery for its class. After we learned that the hardware is almost the same, and both models feature IPS panels, it is time for us to take a look under the service lid. Acer’s battery is realatively big – 56 Wh. Despite this, when compared to that of the Inspiron 7559 (74 Wh), it seems as if we are comparing a 15-incher toa 17-incher.

2

Before providing the results, we would like to mention that both models did great. In our standard gaming tests, Acer’s gaming machine held up for 5 hours and 24 minutes – in comparison to Dell’s “out of this world” gaming machine – 7hours and 41 mminutes. Despite this 2-hour difference, the two laptops perform really well.

Performance

The performance is the same, and there is almost no difference in terms of gaming between the Intel Core i5-6300HQ and Core i7-6700HQ. Despit this, we expect different results, because of newer drivers leading to better performance. In the links bellow you can see that the rarely is there any difference,  which signifies the quality and performance of both devices.

Temperatures

The new thinner design and the rear vents make our temperature tests even more interesting (between the two devices, and the previous model by Acer). Dell, on the other hand, has placed a third side vent, so as to be on the safe side, and the gaming session results are here.

As usual, we start with a 100% load of the CPU to check its cooling and see if operating with software alone will lead to significant temperature rise. Core i7-6700HQ’s average temperature was 75 degrees Celsius, but it often rose up to 90 degrees, making the chip refrain from Turbo Boost and work at its base frequency – 2.6 GHz. Inspiron’s chip worked at 68 degrees, and, despite this, managed to keep a frequency higher than the base – 2.8 GHz.

temo

When the GPU test was started along with that of the procesor, the VN7-592G reached high temperatures of 97 degrees which had an affect on the CPU and GPU – the GPU’s frequency did not fall below its base, but the CPU registered 2.4 GHz and throttling was observed. Nonetheless, the system remained stable. No problems were to be observed with Dell – its processor continued ticking at 2.8 GHz with maximum temperature of 52 degrees, (56.7 degrees with Acer’s model). We were happy to find that the palmrests remained cool in both devices.

Verdict

Both models have clear advantages and disadvantages, which is good for those of you who are hesitant. The VN7-592G offers better build quality, which means longer life of the device, and also it’s lightweight (when compared to its predecessor and the current opponent). Nanoimprint lithography, used frequently for this Acer series, grants not only long life, but also unique appearance of the lid, which is good for those of you who like unconventionality. On the other hand, we note the quite decent display that beat Dell Inspiron 7559 in terms of sRGB coverage and other display tests.

Inspiron 7559 “destroyed”the VN7-592G in our battery tests, which should be borne in mind, if you travel a lot and are away from power supply. Another plus for Dell is its temperatures. Owing to its three cooling vents, the laptop remained “coldblooded” even after long 100% stress tests, while keeping relatively high freqencies. This was yet another comparison of two of the best gaming models in terms of their price/performance.

dell is much cooler, acer overheats like shit.Another cool thing about dell is easy mantenance.

Remember that lower temperatures equals longer lasting laptop and better performance in gaming ( for those who game anyways ).

I had an acer, and i hated it and i got dell.Much better.
