Linux OS is 25 years old today

logo-linuxYou may not believe it but 25 years ago on 25th August 1991 Linus Torvalds shared that he was beginning a strange new undertaking – the development of an absolutely free of charge OS. Today Linux is perhaps the most popular system because it can be installed on any kind of devices – computers, smart watches, gas pumps, etc. The names of the companies that sponsor the development of this OS are not at all obscure – Intel, Red Hat, Linaro, Samsung, SUSE, IBM, Renesas, Google, AMD, Texas Instruments, and ARM.

Linux is a version of the Unix OS that was developed in the distant 1969. Twenty-five years later it features several versions such as Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, Red Hat, OpenSUSE, Arch Linux, Slackware and many others, which are not so popular. Additionally, thanks to the “new” OS today one can often encounter many open-source software applications, which are needed by a lot of developers for the accomplishment of a given project. Started as a hobby, Linux turned into a dominating OS, and developers continue to support and further improve it as a safer and faster OS.
