[Comparison] Intel Core i7-12700H vs Intel Core i5-12500H – the winner is obvious, but …

The Core i5-12500H is a very interesting chip on paper. It comes very close to the Core i7-12700H, offering two fewer cores. However, the lacking cores are Performance ones, which will have a larger effect on the performance. Still, this is a very powerful CPU, so we can’t wait to see how it stacks up to the biggest dog in the kennel, as we put it against the Core i7-12700H.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i7-12700H against the Core i5-12500H.

CPU benchmarks

The Core i7 is a lot more powerful, with the extra two performance cores doing work, scoring 22% higher in Cinebench 20. However, once we move into Photoshop, we see the Core i5 coming back. While it doesn’t win, it shortens the performance gap to just 0.3 seconds.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Conclusion

The Core i7-12700H is in its own league, reaching unreachable results and beating everything in its way. However, the Core i5-12500H comes uncomfortably close in Adobe Photoshop, so if you strictly want a device for image editing, look no further.
