[Comparison] Lenovo ThinkPad L14 and L15 Gen 2 (AMD) vs ThinkPad L14 and L15 Gen 1 (AMD) – what are the differences?

The L-series from Lenovo offers inexpensive and affordable laptops, which pack decent performance and an industrial design. They are also relatively well-built, despite using plastic for most of its body.

They are also part of Lenovo’s initiative to become greener, by using a lot of recycled materials for its build and packaging, minimizing the carbon footprint that they leave. Today we will compare the new L14 and L15 against the older Gen 1 units to see what is new and what has remained the same.

The design on both the L14 and L15 has remained the same, featuring an all-plastic design. Now, this is not a bad thing, Lenovo knows how to make plastic laptops be structurally sound and rigid enough to endure the strenuous lifestyle that laptops go through. In terms of dimensions, the new L14 is around 20 grams lighter, but keeps the same height, while the L15 is 10 grams lighter and also keeps the same height.

All four laptops share identical display choices, with the obvious difference being the size of the diagonal. There are two displays to pick from, the first of which comes in a 768p resolution and uses a TN panel. The second display uses a better IPS panel and bumps up the resolution to Full HD.

Lastly, the specs are updated to have the latest hardware from AMD. We are talking about the Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 U-series chips, which should bring better performance than their older, Zen 2 predecessors.
