[Comparison] NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 (Laptop, 175W) vs GeForce RTX 4080 (Laptop, 175W) – A nice lead in performance

The new RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 are tearing through the laptop GPU scene, generating insane results. Both GPUs are way ahead of the RTX 3080 Ti from 2022, so it’s only fair to put them against each other and see how they will fare, as well as who’ll come out on top. On paper, the RTX 4090 comes with 4GB of extra GDDR6 memory, a 31% increase in CUDA cores, and a wider 256-bit memory bus. Let’s see if these increases contribute to more performance, and if, by how much.

Today we’re comparing the RTX 4090 (Laptop, 175W) against the RTX 4080 (Laptop, 175W).

Conclusion

It would have been quite the problem if the RTX 4080 was more powerful than the RTX 4090, so it’s good to see that there is an increase in performance, albeit it is not as big as we’d like. However, the market for these graphics cards isn’t that big, as most consumers focus on the more affordable options, which in the 40-series is represented by the RTX 4050 and 4060.
