Design

Acer gives no information about the build materials that are used but does advertise the MIL-STD-810H durability certification. What we know is that the display on the front has a Gorilla Glass cover, so scratch resistance is secured. As glass is more durable than regular plastic covers, lid durability will be better as well. Lastly, in terms of dimensions, the Chromebook measures light, weighing 1.40 kg and having a profile of 17.78 mm.

Display

Behind the glass slab, we find FHD+ IPS display. While brightness and contrast ratio are kept under wraps, the display has 100% sRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

The Chromebook is offered with both P-series and U-series Alder Lake CPUs. With that said, Acer should prioritize cooling, as many laptops that offer both these types of CPUs tune their cooling to do well with the 15W U-series chips, which leads to poor performance and throttling in configurations with the P-series CPUs. For graphics, you rely on the iGPU solution inside the CPU, which has been pretty good for design work and video rendering, as good as an iGPU can be.

The Chromebook Spin 714 comes with a fingerprint reader and a backlit keyboard. The base also has a large speaker grill, which houses two units. On top of the lid, you can see a webcam, which has FHD resolution.
