[Comparison] Intel Core i7-12700H vs Apple M1 Max – Spicy battle with even spicier results

The M1 Max is a serious statement by Apple, whose ecosystem is becoming even more closeted, which isn’t appreciated by enthusiasts. However, this exact thing is how they manage to siphon so much performance out of their devices, as they have optimized their OS and the Mac-specific apps to run as well as possible.

Today we are putting the M1 Max to the test, and we have quite the opponent, in the face of the Core i7-12700H, which will be the ultimate Windows laptop vs MacBook Pro showdown.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i7-12700H against the Apple M1 Max.

CPU benchmarks

The Cinebench R20 scores speak for themselves, as the Core i7 wipes the floor with the M1 Max, delivering a 120% higher score.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Moving to the Cinebench R23 benchmark, which is better optimized for Apple Silicon, so we should be able to get a better representation of the SoC’s performance. While the Core i7 still scores higher, the lead is close, albeit still quite large at 47%.

Conclusion

In a single CPU generation, Intel has regained its dominance managing to surpass both AMD and Apple in the laptop space, with their latest generation looking nigh-unstoppable. Furthermore, answers from their competitors are still far out, as we are unsure if the M1 Ultra will find its way inside laptops, while the Zen 4 chips are going to drop at the end of the year.
