Design

The device has an entirely plastic exterior, with a thickness of 21.08 mm and a weight of 1.35 kg. It’s reinforced on the inside and the outside, with a rubber bumper that keeps the internal components safe even after drops and hits. The lid and base have a textured finish with a black cover, which makes handling the laptop easier. It is a bit bulkier, especially for an 11.6-inch machine, however, the user base that it’s targeting won’t care about that.

The port selection of the laptop includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a MicroSD card slot, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

It’s good to see that even laptops as affordable as this one can finally get IPS panels, as previous TN units offer poor colors and contrast. The HD IPS panel won’t break records or offer the most stunning colors imaginable, however, it’s still a big step up when it comes to budget laptops.

Specifications and features

For 2023 and beyond, the Celeron and Pentium CPUs are done and dusted, as Intel is introducing new low-end processors. The Acer Chromebook 511 is powered by the Intel N100, a quad-core chip with 4 efficiency cores and a boost speed of 3.40 GHz. It’s made to be as efficient as possible, with only a 6W TDP, however, the cores can still spike up for quick bursts of performance, so opening apps and loading documents and browser tabs should feel snappy, especially under ChromeOS, which is way lighter than Windows as well as much more tight-knit. You’re allowed to install Play store apps on it, so it’s overall much safer from malware.
