Design and construction

Once we take the laptop out of its packaging, we see that its lid is made out of aluminum, while the base features a plastic body with a rubberized finish. Both the lid and the base are reasonably resistant to flex, which is great.

While the laptop weighs 2.50 kilos, its profile stands from 22.5mm all the way up to 30.4mm. This is not unseen, as the sloped design of the machine is really well established by many competitors. By the way, you can see that the front side of the base glows, as does the ROG logo on the back of the lid.

Speaking of which, the lid can be opened with one hand. Interestingly, the bezels around it are very slim, but the opening angle is not that big. Let’s not forget the 720p Web camera, which has its own notch up top.

A look at the base reveals that the indicator lights of this machine are integrated into the shoulder part. Besides the good design, the base is home to the keyboard. Naturally, you get Per-Key RGB backlit unit. Its QWER and ASDF keys are translucent, as is the large space bar.

We are pretty happy with the typing experience, which provides long key travel and clicky feedback. You will also find five media keys in the top left part of the base. In terms of the touchpad, you get a very large, very smooth, and incredibly fast and accurate unit.

Turn the laptop upside down, and you will find the speaker cutouts and the large ventilation grill. Hot air gets exhausted through two vents on the back and one on each side of the laptop. We have to say that the middle part of the backside is also a vent, but only exhausts a tiny amount of air.

Ports

On the left side, there is the power plug, a LAN port, an HDMI 2.1 connector, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with Power Delivery and DisplayPort capability, as well as an Audio jack. Then, you get two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports.
