Dell XPS 15 9530 review – it doesn’t even need to be changed

Verdict

To be honest, the XPS 15 9530 is not a regular laptop. And it shouldn’t be treated as such. If we do that, it might appear that this is not a particularly good machine. Take the crude numbers from the temperature test for example. Looking at them, you won’t be able to see how quietly the device performed, even when the “Ultra Performance” profile was used.

However, in real life, the machine does exactly what you need it to. It comes with a comfortable keyboard and touchpad, as well as fantastic speakers. The 3W woofers produce a vibration like no other.

Even its base screen option is a piece of art. Dell XPS 15 9530’s display in this configuration has an IPS panel with a WUXGA resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio. It has a very high maximum brightness and covers 100% of the sRGB and 90% of the DCI-P3 color gamuts.

Moreover, its color accuracy is pretty good, as is expected from this particular notebook. In addition, the screen doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. This makes it comfortable for long periods, without presenting any excessive harm to your eyes and brain in this aspect.

It is no surprise that this is the MacBook Pro’s most prominent competitor. However, unlike Apple, Dell provides you with the opportunity to upgrade your RAM and your storage. However, even though the XPS 15 has a rather sad port selection, you get a USB Type-C to USB Type-A and HDMI dongle inside the package.

That’s definitely not bad for a device that hasn’t changed a bit in the past three years (or more). Thankfully, its battery life is so long that you can comfortably work for two days straight if you don’t have anything intensive to do on your laptop.

All in all, this proves that despite the zero effort from the design department this year, and the mild change in generations, the Dell XPS 15 9530 is still one of the best workhorse devices you can get.

I can comment on the display since I have this and the 4K. The difference is huge. 4k display is much, but much, better. This display is blurry compared to the 4K. When you get a 4K laptop and you go back to FHD+ you will notice for sure. Just my 2 cents for the people who have doubts about which one to buy. 4K, it’s worth the money.
