[Comparison] AMD Radeon RX 5300M vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (Laptop, 40/50W) – the Radeon trades blows with the more powerful GTX 1650

With the newly available RX 5300M the question arises of how good is it compared to the competition from NVIDIA. Today we are here to do just that by putting it against one of the most popular budget graphics cards that is available in pretty much every budget gaming laptop out in the market.

Of course, we are talking about the GeForce GTX 1650, but with a caveat. With there being two versions of the GTX 1650, that vary in power consumption, we will put both of them against the RX 5300M to see what this new AMD GPU is worth.

Today we are comparing the AMD Radeon RX 5300M against NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (Laptop, 40/50W).

    GPU benchmarks

In 3DMark Fire Strike the RX 5300M performed the best out of the three GPUs, followed by the 50W GTX 1650, which was 12% slower than it, and the 40W GTX 1650 was last, being 22% slower than the AMD GPU. In Unigine Heaven 4.0 the GTX 1650 (50W) was the fastest GPU of the three, being 4% faster than the RX 5300M and the GTX 1650 (40W) was once again last, being 5% worse than the RX 5300M. Finally, in Unigine Superposition The RX 5300M once again took the #1 spot, followed by the GTX 1650 (50W), which was 1% slower than the AMD GPU and the GTX 1650 (40W) at last, being 16% slower than the RX 5300M.

    Conclusion

The new Radeon RX 5300M definitely adds some much-needed competition in the space, which was previously dominated by the GTX 1650. After all, it was faster than both the 50W and 40W versions of the GTX 1650, except for Unigine Heaven 4.0, in which the NVIDIA GPU was 4% faster. What is more interesting, is that in real-life gaming, the RX 5300M was trading blows with the more powerful GTX 1650 version, beating it in some titles, and suffering a heavy defeat in others. Ultimately, we feel that the AMD GPU is pretty much on par with the 50W iteration of its NVIDIA competitor, while the 40W GTX 1650 sits comfortably in the last place. Additionally, we have to note that the RX 5300M uses slightly more power with a TGP of 65W, which will lead to higher temperatures in the same conditions while using equal cooling solutions. Get ready for more comparisons between the RX 5300M and other budget and mid-range GPUs.
