[Comparison] AMD Ryzen 7 6800U vs Intel Core i5-1240P – A valiant fight from the Core i5

Yesterday, we had an interesting CPU comparison between the Ryzen 7 6800U and the Core i7-1260P, which is a 12-core 16-thread CPU. It performed well against the AMD chip, showing 8% less 3D Rendering performance, but being a second and a half quicker in Photoshop.

Today we have another challenger for the Ryzen 7, with the Core i5-1240P entering the fight cage. It has the same number of cores and threads but has 6MB less cache. The clock speed is also a bit lower, but that could fluctuate depending on the cooling and thermal, and power management. With that said, let’s see if the Core i5-1240P can match up with the Ryzen 7 6800U as well as the Core i7-1260P did yesterday.

    GPU benchmarks

Once we test the integrated graphics, we see that AMD and its new RDNA 2 iGPU have a big lead. The Radeon 680M is 58% and 59% quicker in 3DMark Fire Strike and Unigine Superposition, respectively. The Radeon iGPU also does better in the majority of testing scenarios when it came to playing games.

    Conclusion

The Core i5-1240P is a very similar processor to the Core i7-1260P, so it’s no surprise that it makes for a decent challenger to the Ryzen 7 6800U when it comes to pure computational performance. While GPU power sways in AMD’s favor in benchmarks and games, Intel’s solutions have been noticeably better for productivity, video rendering, and image editing.
