The Alder Lake vs Zen 3+ debate has been going on for the entire of 2022 and seems to continue into 2023. However, with the upcoming Ryzen 7000 and Intel Raptor Lake mobile chips, which we’re avidly waiting for in the next couple of months, it’s about time we wrap up the discussions.

That’s why today we’re comparing two relatively closely matched CPUs in terms of position in the market, as despite bearing the Core i7 name, the 12650H offers less power than the Core i5-12500H or even the Core i7-12600H. On the other hand, the 6600H is as reliable as ever, with a good old 6-core 12-thread setup. Let’s see how these two stack up against each other.

The Core i7 shows significant leads in performance, both in 3D and 2D Rendering. The chip scores 17% higher in Cinebench R23, while also being nearly two seconds quicker in Photoshop.

Conclusion

The Core i7 is a clear winner in terms of performance, however, you can’t count out the efficiency and integrated graphics that AMD offers. With the RDNA 2 architecture, there are significant gains in gaming performance, and the Ryzen 5 has shown to be relatively easy to keep cool and running well, so you can get a good laptop with just the Ryzen 5 6600H and the iGPU, while retaining a good level of gaming performance on par with or close to a GTX 1650 (Laptop) and other low-end NVIDIA GPUs from the MX-series.
