Helio P10 (+Mali-T860) vs Snapdragon 625 (+Adreno 506) vs Snapdragon 820 (+Adreno 530) – performance, benchmarks and temperatures

Today we will take a look at three well-established mobile chips developed by MediaTek and Qualcomm respectively. We are talking about Helio P10, Snapdragon 625 and Snapdragon 820. The battle between MediaTek and Qualcomm is always intriguing so we will compare these chips using the smartphones Meizu M3 Note, Lenovo P2 and ZTE Axon 7 respectively.

We will first have a look at their specifications and then compare their results from various benchmarks, and conclude with surface overheating tests.

MediaTek Helio P10, found in Meizu M3 Note, is a 64-bit mobile chip built on a 28nm node. MediaTek promises up to 30% better energy efficiency than other chips using a 28nm technology. The chip includes eight Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of up to 2 GHz. Helio P10 boasts support of Full HD displays as well as MiraVision 2.0, UltraDimming and BluLight Defender technologies. Also found here is LTE Cat 6 connectivity which will lead to higher connection speeds. The chip works with up to 21MP cameras and allows recording of Full HD videos. Additionally, the present GPU is Mali-T860 with frequencies of 700MHz.

More information about Helio P10 can be found on the official MediaTek website: http://mediatek-helio.com/p10/

Snapdragon 625, found in Lenovo P2, is a Qualcomm mobile chip manufactured through a 14nm technological process. It features eight Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 2GHz. The chip also includes an X9 modem, providing Cat. 7 LTE connectivity or in other words download speed of up to 300Mbps and up to 150Mbps upload speed. Moreover, Snapdragon 625 also supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, the Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging, Full HD screens, up to 24MP cameras and 4K video recording. Additionally, the Adreno 506 GPU takes care of the graphics performance.

Benchmarks

We have conducted several benchmarks putting to the test both computing (first two tests) and graphics power (last four tests) of the three mobile chips. You can check the results displayed in the table below

External temperatures

Once again we check the extent to which these mobile chips lead to overheating in the smartphones, loading the devices with continuous 3D gaming simulated with the help of the Epic Citadel app. Of course, a mobile processor is not the only reason for a rise in temperature but it plays significant role to it. The good news is that all three devices faced no problems with overheating the body after continuous load, although M3 Note with P10 reached slightly higher values compared to its rivals.
