Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

One of Acer’s premiere sub-brands, the Swift series is looking to become better engrained in the market, especially with young consumers, changing their naming to offer X, Air, and Go devices, as nowadays numbers are too complicated. Today we’ve got the Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71). As you can probably guess, it’s a 16-inch machine, but it has such a big lineup of available hardware that we can’t do anything but hope it works out, as we need more good laptops in order to push the competition further. The presence of the bigger H-series chips is a bit scary, as a device named the Go needs to be light enough and house these powerful components at the same time.

Let’s see how the Swift Go 16 does, as we present you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about it.

Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71): Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71)

1. Design and build quality

The all-metal build of the Swift Go 16 remains durable and feels good all the time, especially because of its portability. The thing weighs only 1.60 kg while having a profile of 14.9 mm, which is really portable. The durability is there, as we saw very little flex only from the lid, as the base remained sturdy. On the other hand, the lid doesn’t open with one hand, but the rubber feet on it still lift up the base slightly, which contributes to the ergonomics and the cooling. Opening the lid shows the thin bezels around the display, as well as a 1440p webcam.

Going to the base, there’s a full-sized keyboard with a backlight. The key travel on it isn’t the longest, due to the thinner profile, however, the feedback is plenty clicky, so the typing experience is good. What’s more, the power button doubles as a fingerprint reader. The touchpad is also pretty large and has an OceanGlass surface, which is as smooth as it gets.

2. Display quality

There are several displays available, but we’ve chosen a 16:10 FHD+ IPS panel with excellent viewing angles and a peak brightness of 477 nits. We’d say that it’s suitable for Creator work, thanks to 86% sRGB coverage.

More importantly, using our Design and Gaming profile you can adjust the color accuracy, so the display presents very true-to-life colors. We managed to lower the dE value from 7.1 down to 1.8. Here are the results of our test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Buy our profiles

Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package are meant for Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71) configurations with 16.0″ BOE NE160WUM-N61 (BOE0A6C) (1920 x 1200) IPS.

Praca biurowa

Projektowanie i gry

Health-Guard

3. Battery life

The 53Wh battery pack and the Core i5-1335U are a good pairing, as the Swift Go 16 lasts for 17 hours and 47 minutes of Web browsing, or 10 hours of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71)

1. Speakers

The speakers of the laptop are found on the bottom, which is fine for any notebook. Furthermore, our tests show deviations from clarity across the entire frequency range, which doesn’t bode well for the sound quality. If we had to find another gripe about it, it’s the max volume, as the speakers appear quieter than we’d want.

2. Upgradeability

With a 16-inch machine, we often expect to see good upgradeability, however, here that’s not the case. The RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, offering up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory. For storage, there’s one M.2 PCIe x4 slot that fits Gen 4 SSDs.

Here’s our teardown video, which shows how to access the single SSD slot inside.
