Detailed specs of the extreme Intel Core-i9 X CPUs

Not long ago we shared with you information about the most powerful Intel CPUs from the Core X series which most probably will be a direct rival to the AMD Threadripper models. The American company has officially announced the specs of the chips which will be available by the end of this year.

Starting off with the “weakest” 12-core CPU, Intel Core i9-7920X, running at 2.9GHz base frequency and 4.4GHz Turbo Boost 3.0. The CPU features 16.5MB third level cache and 165 W consumption which we consider as normal given the model’s specs. Moving on, the next extreme CPU from the series, Core i9-7940X, offers “only” 14 physical and 28 logical cores, running at 3.1GHz base frequency. Of course, the Turbo Boost 3.0 technology is also available for this model reaching 4.4GHz frequency. The cache is again third level with a capacity of 19.5MB, while the chip consumption goes up to 165 W.

For those of you that are looking for maximum speed in multitasking and do not think that the budget comes first, Intel launches the 16-core Core i9-7960X and 18-core Core i9-7980XE in September this year. All Core i9 models feature support for 44 PCIe 3.0 lines which means you can seamlessly mount up to four graphics cards to your system as well as a large number of SSDs for additional speed during work. As we already mentioned, the three models will be available in the end of September, while the Core i9-7920X is expected by the end of this month.
