NVIDIA displayed the future of autonomous cars – Parker SoC (powered by Pascal)
In the beginning of May, NVIDIA announced its latest graphics architecture called Pascal. At the Hot Chips event in California, the American company announced its newest invention – Parker SoC. As the name suggests, the system includes everything in itself for the purpose of flawless operation. NVIDIA shared that the device had been developed so as to be implemented as an essential component in autonomous cars, because of its high performance and many features.
The most interesting about the new NVIDIA invention is that it features a Pascal GPU. Also, the graphics card comes with 256 CUDA cores, which is enough to power several displays in a car. Furthermore, the computing performance of Parker SoC is 50 to 100% higher than that of other mobile chips. This is due to the two Denver 2.0 processors and four 64-bit ARM Cortex A57 cores. All of them work in a consecutive heterogeneous multiprocessor configuration.
The SoC has been manufactured through a 16nm FinFET process, and features a 128-bit LPDR4 RAM, as well as a Safety Engine that shows on a display potential errors. All this leads to capabilities such as 4K 60fps video playback, and the ability to set up up to 8 virtual machines.
