Acer Swift Go 14 (SFG14-71) review – OLED is becoming mainstream

Design and construction

The Swift series has always been known for its low weight and fantastic portability. With that said, the Acer Swift Go 14 (SFG14-71) weighs 1.25 kg, and has a profile of 14.9mm. As you can imagine, that is very thin and light.

Surprisingly, there is almost no flex in the chassis, when we tried twisting it. This must be due to a solid structure on the inside, or the aluminum body panels. Yes, the lid is made out of metal too, but it is just a little twisty. By the way, the boxy design looks really fresh.

Here, the lid can’t be opened with one hand. However, the super thin bezels on the inside make the laptop appear really modern (whatever this term means). Furthermore, the top one houses a QHD Web camera.

In addition, the bottom part of the lid has two rubber feet. They grip the surface the laptop is sitting on, and lift the backside of the base slightly from the ground. The higher clearance provides the fans more access to fresh air, while the angled base makes typing on the keyboard a bit more comfortable.

Speaking of which, the keyboard has a backlight, average key travel, and relatively clicky feedback. Its power button doubles as a fingerprint reader, while the touchpad is made out of a material called OceanGlass. Quite contradictory, this is a plastic, extracted from our polluted oceans. So at the end of the day, you not only get a great device, but you also help the environment.

By the way, we have to say that this touchpad is really smooth and responsive, so we would encourage more manufacturers to look for this material. Now, turn the laptop upside down, and you’ll find the two speaker cutouts. Running almost the entire width of the machine, there are two ventilation grills. Hot air exhaust, on the other hand, happens through a rather large vent on the back of the base – shooting right at the bottom of the display.

Ports

On the left side, you get two Thunderbolt ports, followed by an HDMI 2.1 connector, and a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port. Then, on the right, there is a security lock slot, another USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an Audio jack, and a MicroSD card slot.

Does the 16″ OLED panel have the same performance characteristics and image quality? Is it comparable to the 14″?
